Tuesday Tip - Coping...

Tuesday Tip is P.M. Info Systems' weekly blog post on a small tidbit about healthy living.

This week is about living with depression. As Linda Esposito LCSW quotes, "There is no health without mental health". Read her blog post on Psychology Today, "Depression: 7 Powerful Tips to Help You Overcome Bad Moods", this is a great read.

I have been suffering with depression for over 20 years now. I went through early menopause at the age of 38 and by the time I was 40 I was post-menopausal. I haven't had a period since I was 40, but all the symptoms that come with them including hot flashes and one more, depression.

Over the past 20 years, it's been a deep, dark hole, figuratively, I have been digging myself out of, but with the help of close family members, change in diet, exercise, and positive thinking I have been able to cope with my depression. Now I can honestly say, though some days are a struggle, I can and have been managing my depression.

Here is another great read I found helpful, "8 Tips for Living with Depression".

Here are my tips for coping with depression:

6 Tips for Coping with Depression

  1. Wake up each morning saying, "Today is going to be a great day!"

  2. I make my bed every morning, so if the day gets away from me, I can journal at the end of the day, that I did accomplish something today.

  3. Exercise 15 minutes 3 days a week and walk every day 1 to 2 miles a day.

  4. Cook healthy meals at least 5 day a week.

  5. Have a support group, or family and friends you can talk to or get a therapist. This tip is very important!

  6. Positive thinking! All the time! No exceptions! Here are 19 positive affirmations to say every day.

Lastly, my main reason for making depression the tiniest thought in my life is my granddaughter. She gives me love every day and brightens my world.
